1899
Founded the “Yamato Nori Honpo”, predecessor of Yamato CO., LTD. Started production and sales of “YAMATO PASTE-GLUE” in Sumida-Ku, Tokyo.
1899-1950
Yamato Paste Glue in early years

Yamato glue was widely accepted in the market as Japan’s first glass-bottled long-life starch paste.
1923
Introduced Ms. Sumiko Kurishima, a popular actress, as a model for an advertisement of Yamato.
1923
Expanded sales channels by registering “Yamato Glue” as a trademark.
1941-1945
During World War II, when glass became harder to obtain, ceramic containers were sometimes used.
1948
Moved Head Office to Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
Changed the corporate name to “YAMATO GLUE INDUSTRY”.
1950
Obtained patent for the “Reiko” method, chemical processing and manufacturing strong adhesive and not deteriorated starch paste without heat.

Started sales of “ARABIC YAMATO” (Liquid Glue), the most popular Japanese liquid glue.

Opened new Head Office.

Established Hiroshima Assembly Plant.

Founded YAMATO INTERNATIONAL CORP.( Y.I.C. ) in Michigan, U.S.A.
Began producing automotive masking materials for TOYOTA, FORD, MAZDA, HONDA, etc.
